Our Beginning, Our History, Our Story……
Tony Hooydonk immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands with the vision of bringing his horticulture skills to establish a new business.
The story goes, Tony asked Euny (a young immigrant from Ireland), for a dance and spoke Dutch to Euny the entire time, besotted by this handsome young man Euny never let on she could not understand a word of Dutch! They fell in love, married, worked hard and started a family.
In 1955 Tony and Euny launched Fanshawe Nursery, located near the Fanshawe Dam. In 1965 Fanshawe Nursery moved to Highbury Avenue along the Thames River.
Tony and Euny’s family where raised with the magic of nature surrounding them and a lot of hard work.
With the growth of the City of London Fanshawe Nursery Ltd. moved further north on Highbury Ave. and given a new name by Tony’s grandchildren – “Grandpa’s Garden”. The love of horticulture was instilled in their hearts passed down from their grandparents to their parents and now to the grandchildren.
Years later with expansion the business acquired a new name —”Grandpa’s Garden Landscaping and Nursery”.
